Why this is a masterpiece:
The drum is uniquely decorated with geometric motifs. The frog is a symbol of rain and prosperity.
History of the Object:
In Indonesia kettledrums have been discovered mostly along the sea trade routes and it is possible that they were originally used for barter. They became prestigious items, and were used in rituals and ceremonies, including calling for rain ceremonies.

Why this is a masterpiece:
It can be concluded from the axe’s attractive appearance, the way it was perfectly made and the materials it was made out of, that this particular example was most likely an amulet, a burial item or barter object as opposed to an everyday object.
History of the Object:
Quadrangular axes, or adzes, were largely found in Western Indonesia, particularly in West Java. Made of semi-precious stone, the surface of this particular adze was polished until soft circles appeared and it would have been tied to the handle with rattan string.
